What fun! I painted angels today. The leader emphasized process over product, which I found an interesting distinction. She guided our small group to distinguish a safe and creative space. We had the option to use stencils. I combined two of them and the resulting figure combined two upper portions to represent a full body.
Angels are a lovely symbol. In my current worldview, they represent assistance, meaning, and joy. What I liked about our experience is that people voiced a desire to illustrate destruction. I thought it courageous of these women to voice, in front of a group, a desire to destruct. Voids are essential elements of our lives. They require balance of meaning and non-meaning to create an active and vigorous existence.
The image in one stencil resembled a man, so I painted him to look more feminine. I like the idea of two angels who intertwine to create opposite sides of one entity. Interesting -- one is turned away in the above image, unlike in the below mage where it appears the fire and water face observes the viewer.
This reminds me of a yin and yang symbol. It's almost erotic, in some ways. The leader person said to be discerning about those with whom we share our angel paintings, that we created a special space and others may not respect it in the same ways. True. I see that humanity has its elements that disrespect or demean both intentionally and unintentionally, especially for differences.
I like this angel creation. Humans and angels are one and the same. When we respect all of our differences and joys in one breath, we experience eternity.
Well hello there.
