Some essential oils may help hair grow. "Cedarwood, lavender, thyme, and rosemary oils have hair growth–promoting properties. These oils have been anecdotally used to treat alopecia for more than 100 years" (Hay IC, Jamieson M, Ormerod AD. Randomized Trial of Aromatherapy: Successful Treatment for Alopecia Areata. Arch Dermatol. 1998;134(11):1349-1352. doi:10.1001/archderm.134.11.1349). The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association: Dermatology offers the following recipe. For seven months, participants gently massaged the blend into their scalps and then wrapped warm towels around their heads.
