I'm in another abusive situation at work. Why can't I seem to get away from these types of people as leaders? Someone suggested that it's because these kinds of personalities thrive in my industry. Perhaps that statement is correct. But probably there are other reasons, too.
All kinds of analysis could ensue from here. We could go the societal realm and detail how our society treats its laborers. We could talk about how even the eight-hour workday is somewhat new in this country. There could be a section focused on micromanagers, narcissists, and personality disorders in general. All of these would be meaningful and important.
At this point, I'll just do what I can to take steps that are good and kind toward myself and the person I believe to be in the wrong here. I'll talk with people who feel safe and discover whether I am able to transfer jobs within my organization. I'll do the tasks my boss asks of me and remember that I am not my work, but rather I am in this role for my own personal reasons (I like to pay my bills on time so I don't incur late fees and the water stays on and we keep this roof over our head, to name a few).
May we all love and nurture ourselves even when the going is rough.
Well hello there.
